Dr Ackermann’s interest in men’s health include the services of vasectomy and circumcision, benign prostate conditions, systematic investigation and treatment of male sexual dysfunction and testosterone deficiency syndrome.
Female patients are regularly seen to address urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, organ prolapse and pelvic pain syndromes.
Kidney stone patients are offered treatment as well as the investigation into the formation of stones, and medical treatment in order to prevent future stone formation.
Urological conditions in children, a truly specialized area of urology, will be treated in conjuction with senior colleagues with significant experience.
Dr Ackermann is an ad-hoc lecturer and senior specialist at the University of Stellenbosch, Department of Urology. He is responsible for the clinical research trials investigating prostate cancer and antibiotic usage for complicated urinary tract infections in men and women. He is the national principal investigator for the IRONMAN trial and the PRONOUNCE trial, investigating the role of prostate cancer drugs in advanced metastatic prostate cancer.
Dr Ackermann serves on the medical advisory board of Firmagon (Ferring) and the Executive Committee of the South African Urology Association. He is a member of the European Association of Urology, The International Society of Urologists (SIU) and the American Urological Association of Urologists (AUA).
Dr Ackermann travels quarterly to attend international institutions for congresses, workshops, expert masterclasses and Oncological consensus meetings.
Dr Ackermann recently attended a masterclass in performing artificial urinary sphincters and male incontinence slings in the treatment of post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence in Cambridge, London. He also attended a functional urology session on pelvic neuromodulation in Antwerp, Belgium.
Dr Ackermann has been approved for the Da Vinci robotic proctorship programme, which he will be completing in the foreseeable future.
The practice continues to offer the experience of Professor MLS de Kock, who consults on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Private patients are offered similar rates to medical aid contract patients.

Urology for Men
We are proud of our experience in the treatment of urological cancers (prostate, bladder, renal, ureter, penile and testes) and offer endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Dr Ackermann is experienced in performing laser enucleation of the prostate (ThuLEP). Ackermann Urology is a referral centre for microsurgical infertility surgery – including vasovasostomy, vasoepididymostomy, microsurgical subinguinal varicocoelectomy and MicroTESE. Vasectomy, circumcision and scrotal procedures are performed as day surgery cases. Advanced male urinary incontinence are addressed with the AMS 800 surgical device implantation.
Urology for Women
Dr Ackermann attends to urological tumours and cancers of the kidney, ureter and bladder in females. Laparoscopic surgery for renal cystic diseases or renal pelvic junction obstruction are performed. Laser, shockwave and percutaneous treatment to renal stones in females are performed.
Urology for Children
Dr Ackermann regularly treats children for circumcision, undescended testes, enuresis (bedwetting) and fluid hernias. The practice has a dedicated pediatric anaesthesiologist dedicated to a Wednesday morning operating list to ensure the absolute safety of your child.
